As part of the mural cycle dedicated to women, #lediesis includes Hadis Najafi, the Iranian girl who was killed during a protest near Tehran.
It was six bullets fired by the Iranian police that caused the death of the girl, just over twenty years old. Hadis Najafi was one of the rebellious women who took to the streets to protest against the killing of Mahsa Amini, another woman killed because she was not wearing her veil properly. In a video, Hadis (or the person thought to be Hadis) appeared tying her hair into a ponytail during the demonstration. It was her sister, Shirin Najafi, who recognized her in the video. But it seems - according to the BBC - that the "ponytail girl" is not Hadis, and that she is alive; it seems to be another woman who participated in the demonstrations and was filmed tying her hair into a ponytail.
Tying up one's hair is a daily gesture that we women are used to doing every day. But some women are not allowed to. Wearing a ponytail has become a symbol of freedom.
Mahsa, Hadis, and many other women have died or risk their lives in the name of freedom. We should always remember this, every time someone tries to undermine our rights, every time men - or even other women - claim the right to decide for us.
In this mural by #lediesis, who dedicated the superwomen series to women, the girl with the ponytail is depicted in the act of cutting her hair - an act of rebellion. The symbol that identifies her as a heroine - the "S" of Superwomen - is bleeding. It is not only bullets that kill freedom, but also the indifference of others.
On this subject, I am reminded of the scene by Eduardo de Filippo: it's nothing.

Let's try not to become "nothing".
